Commemoration of the anniversary of the crime in Ahmići

(Patria) - The killing of the Bosniak population in Ahmići and Vitez will be commemorated this year under the slogan "We seek truth and build coexistence".

On this occasion, organizers of the commemoration of the victims of this place in central Bosnia will address journalists in Ahmići at a press conference today.

The commemoration will begin on Friday, April 12, in the mosque in Ahmići, and will continue with religious and educational programs until April 18, when the anniversary of the terrorist attack on the residents of Stari Vitez with a cistern bomb, in which HVO members sent a cistern filled with explosives to Stari Vitez, which exploded in Donja mahala in Stari Vitez. The driver, who was captured and tied into the cistern by HVO members, was Mujo Šahman.

The central commemoration will be organized on April 16 in Stari Vitez and Ahmići. This will be the first time a commemoration will be held for the victims of Ahmići and Vitez. Also, on the same day, an interactive narrative "Ahmići: 48 hours of ash and blood" will be organized in Ahmići and Sarajevo.

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia ruled that the killings in Ahmići were crimes against humanity.

One of the HVO commanders, Dario Kordić, was sentenced to 25 years in prison, Zoran, Mirjan, and Vlatko Kupreškić were sentenced to prison terms ranging from six to ten years for participation in the massacres, but were acquitted by a new verdict in 2001.

Dario Kordić, who was serving a 25-year sentence in an Austrian prison for crimes in central Bosnia, and especially for the crime in Ahmići on April 16, 1993, was released after serving two-thirds of his sentence.

The Hague Tribunal also sentenced former member of the HVO special unit Džokeri, Bosnian Croat Miroslav Cicko Bralo to 20 years in prison. Paško Ljubičić was sentenced to eight years in prison, and after serving two-thirds of his sentence, he was released, while Tihomir Blaškić was sentenced to nine years in prison.
