Visit to endangered areas and emergency session of the Civil Protection Headquarters of Stari Grad Municipality

(Patria) - Municipal Mayor Irfan Čengić, together with members of the Civil Protection Headquarters and competent services, visited endangered locations in the local community of Širokača, streets Komatin and Ablakovina, where heavy rainfall caused additional problems.

In Komatin street, it was particularly noted that the problem with clogged pipes is causing large amounts of water to burst out, posing a threat to nearby houses. Representatives of the public utility company "Vodovod i kanalizacija Sarajevo" and the protection and rescue service of Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality are on the ground, working to resolve this issue.



In Ablakovina street, at one of the private residential buildings that had a problem with water breaking into the basement, the Civil Protection Service of Stari Grad Municipality, together with other municipal services, managed to resolve the issue and help the household members clean the yard of material brought by the water.

Emergency session of the Civil Protection Headquarters

Before the visit, an emergency session of the Civil Protection Headquarters of Stari Grad Municipality was held, at which information on the situation at the Curine njive site due to the heavy rainfall that has been ongoing for days was considered. Although the landslide has not been activated, the situation requires continuous monitoring and the taking of preventive measures.



The Municipal Civil Protection Service and other competent services are constantly in the field monitoring the situation. It was once again stated that landslide remediation works are currently not possible, as the remediation project, being prepared by the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Sarajevo, is still in development. The project is expected to be finalized in May, and until then, the Faculty of Civil Engineering regularly provides information on soil displacement measurements, based on which appropriate activities are undertaken. Upon completion of the project, Stari Grad Municipality is ready to participate in the remediation of the landslide located in the territory of the RS.

The session concluded that the Municipal Civil Protection Service should submit a request to the Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad for declaring a state of natural disaster, which would create conditions for engaging the Federal Civil Protection Administration and the Republican Civil Protection Administration in the territory of the RS entity.

Given that Stari Grad Municipality has been covering the costs of renting housing units for accommodating the evacuated population since the beginning of the evacuation, the Municipal Civil Protection Service is tasked with submitting a request to the Government of Sarajevo Canton to secure financial resources to cover these costs.

Also, the Institute for Construction of Sarajevo Canton offered a certain number of housing units for accommodating the evacuated population, but it was noted that the offered units are not habitable. The Municipal Civil Protection Service will submit a response to the Institute, with a request that the apartments be repaired and reconstructed before use, and will seek financial resources for these works from the Institute and the Government of Sarajevo Canton.

The expert service of the Cabinet of the Municipal Mayor is tasked with re-publishing a Public Call for collecting offers for the allocation of apartments for rent, for the purpose of accommodating the evacuated population. We invite all persons who have spaces for rent to apply to our public call in order to secure accommodation for those in need.

The competent services of Stari Grad Municipality continue to monitor the situation and take necessary measures to ensure the safety of citizens and prevent potential consequences of a possible landslide activation.
