British Daily Mail writes about Tito's bunker

The British Daily Mail published a story about Tito's bunker in Konjic, which was a well-guarded secret for years. 

It was built on the order of Josip Broz Tito in secret from 1953 to 1979, under the name DO ARK to shelter Tito and his 350 closest associates in case of an atomic catastrophe. This impressive space, a massive concrete structure, lies on about 6,500 square meters of space and about 300 meters deep below the surface of the earth.

This facility, which resembles a labyrinth, with more than a hundred rooms and fully preserved inventory (consisting of numerous residential spaces, conference rooms, offices, and a "presidential block"), was designed to ensure the uninterrupted life of 350 people for six months. Until the 1990s, the construction (in which 4.6 billion US dollars were invested) and existence of this bunker was the most strictly guarded military secret.

As the Daily Mail writes, the existence of this atomic shelter, which could withstand a nuclear attack of 20 kilotons - far more powerful than those that fell on Hiroshima - was known only to Tito, his closest associates, and a handful of soldiers who guarded it.

The tunnel walls are made of wood by hand. The entire facility is illuminated by 6,000 neon lights. The complex covers 6,500 square meters, has its own generators, water supply, and air conditioning.

The secret bunker was discovered when BiH seceded from Yugoslavia in 1992, and today this bunker is a national monument and hosts the Biennial of Contemporary Art.
