Citizens in Bosnia and Herzegovina are dissatisfied with the fight against corruption, the security situation in our country, and no one in BiH effectively supervises the work of prosecutor's offices, which have the greatest powers and responsibilities, writes the Patria news agency.
This year, the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton did not adopt the Report on the work of the Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton, and many deputies publicly expressed their dissatisfaction with the work of certain prosecutors and this Prosecutor's Office during the debate on this item. Milorad Novković, President of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH, told NAP that he cannot comment on this case because he does not know the reasons why the report on the work of the Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton was not adopted.
- I cannot comment on that issue because I do not know whether the responsibility lies with the Prosecutor's Office or something else - says Novković.
However, he further specifies that chief prosecutors are responsible for the work of other prosecutors and must monitor their engagement.
- Within the HJPC, there is an Office of the Disciplinary Prosecutor to which any suspicion is reported, which he then checks. Certainly, anyone who does not work according to the prescribed measure that is realistic and objective for a prosecutor should be checked. Because the salary received must be earned, and in that case there is responsibility. The chief prosecutor must have insight into the work of each prosecutor and it is certainly his assessment of who works how much and to what extent. He should, in certain cases, if he believes that someone has not been performing their job in a quantitative and qualitative manner for a longer period, report it - added Novković.
However, Nives Kanevčev, Chief Prosecutor of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office in Sarajevo, has not commented, although she was present at the session and could clearly hear the deputies' objections to the work of the Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton.
We recall that recently Elmedin Konaković, a deputy in the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton, told NAP that the inactivity of certain individuals in the Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo Canton results in an increase in criminal offenses.
- That is another consequence of deficient legal regulations and relations. When a person who causes a traffic accident with fatal consequences is not held in custody, it creates legal uncertainty and stimulates perpetrators of criminal offenses to engage in them, because obviously there are no special sanctions and punishments - said Konaković.
