New Traffic Law in Sarajevo Canton: Pedestrians will also be subject to alcohol testing, no walking for the drunk

Given the fact that on 3 August 2017, the Law on Traffic Regulation in the Sarajevo Canton area was published in the “Official Gazette of Sarajevo Canton”, number 30/17, which came into force today, police officers of the Police Administration of the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton will, in the coming period until conditions for its full application are created, inform and warn citizens about the provisions of the said Law.

It is forbidden for a motor vehicle driver to change traffic lanes in a way that endangers the safety of other drivers and other traffic participants. It is also forbidden for drivers of motorcycles, light motorcycles and mopeds to ride on one wheel.

Under the new law that came into force today, the police will also penalise pedestrians if they do not comply with the new legal provisions. Thus, it is forbidden for pedestrians to walk on the roadway if under the influence of alcohol.

- A pedestrian will be considered to be under the influence of alcohol if, using appropriate means and devices for measuring alcohol intoxication, it is determined that the amount of alcohol in the body exceeds 0.8 g/kg, or if, regardless of the amount of alcohol in the blood, a professional examination determines that they show signs of changed behaviour caused by the effects of alcohol or other intoxicants - the Law states.

Furthermore, an organised column of pedestrians, except for a funeral procession, cannot be longer than 50 metres.
