New Labour Law of the FBiH to take effect from August 20

The new Labour Law in the Federation of BiH will start to be applied on August 20 this year. The law will be published today in the Official Gazette of the Federation of BiH, and eight days after that it will enter into force, writes the news agency Patria.

The adoption of the new Labour Law was accompanied by various problems and controversies, and after the Parliament of the FBiH adopted the law at the end of July this year, thousands of workers took to the streets in peaceful protests in the center of Sarajevo.

The Social Democratic Party of BiH (SDP) announced that it will seek a review of the constitutionality of the new Labour Law, claiming that legal and democratic norms were completely violated during the adoption of this law.

The union claims that the new Labour Law is detrimental to workers, while the Government of the FBiH, which proposed the law, claims that the law will open new jobs and offer workers better working conditions.

The new Labour Law in the FBiH, adopted at the insistence of the international community as part of the reforms that BiH must implement for the country's recovery and its EU accession, regulates the conclusion of employment contracts as well as the termination of employment contracts, the exercise of rights and obligations arising from employment, working hours, salaries, as well as a set of other obligations of workers and employers, writes NAP.
