New pollution problems: We will breathe freely only on Saturday

(Patria) - Without stronger advection (wind) and precipitation, the basin cannot be completely cleaned. And that is expected only on Saturday with the passage of a cold front which will bring a little precipitation and temporarily stronger north wind, said Nedim Sladić, an amateur meteorologist.

"Temperature inversion means that cold air is denser and heavier and falls to the ground, while warmer air is above and lighter. In other words, it is warmer at altitude than at ground level. Due to inversion, the dispersion of polluting particles is suppressed, meaning conditions are created for an increase in pollution levels because there is no vertical mixing of air layers.

There is no wind in the ground layer of the atmosphere because we are in a field of high atmospheric pressure without a constant pressure difference. If there is no pressure difference, there is no wind.
Today, warmer air has begun to flow into our region at altitude in a southwesterly high-altitude current, which the mountains will feel the most in the coming days," said Sladić.
