November could break records, new wave of precipitation expected

(Patria) - Renowned BiH meteorologist Nedim Sladić announced a new wave of precipitation in our country expected next week.

We are transferring Sladić's Facebook post in its entirety.

"On Tuesday, we expect a new wave of precipitation caused by the movement of a cyclonic field over the northern part of the Balkan Peninsula, and given the setup of an atmospheric cold front moving southeast, perpendicular to the position of the jet stream over the central and southern parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a stronger upper forcing mechanism is expected.

The upper forcing mechanism deepens the upper valley, and the processes above and below act in opposition – in other words, the front seems to hit a wall until it breaks through – it wants to move southeast, but the jet stream, a strong ribbon of winds at altitude, slows it down in this intention, generating slow-moving and narrow lines of instability. The mechanism also forces colder air to descend towards the surface, intensifying air cooling, condensation, and precipitation.

Consequently, there will be more intense precipitation in the central and southwestern parts of Bosnia and in Herzegovina, which, according to current forecast model calculations, would be enough for Sarajevo to exceed the figure of 200 liters per square meter and rank among the three rainiest Novembers since records began," Sladić wrote
