New unified stops for better and safer railway traffic in Sarajevo Canton

(Patria) - The construction of 17 new unified train stops is planned in the area of five municipalities in Sarajevo Canton: Novi Grad, Hadžići, Ilijaš, Vogošća, and Ilidža. This is one of the more important projects for improving passenger conditions, ensuring safer traffic, and creating prerequisites for popularizing trains as a comfortable and environmentally friendly mode of transport.

These were the messages from a meeting organized by Prime Minister Nihad Uk with the General Director of Railways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Enis Džafić, the Executive Director for Development and Investment, Reuf Sulejmanović, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Transport of Sarajevo Canton, the Mayor of Ilijaš Municipality, Akif Fazlić, and representatives of other municipalities covered by the project.

The plan includes the construction of new covered stops where technical and safety conditions allow, and platforms between tracks as a second option in locations where covered stops cannot be built due to technical reasons. In certain cases, existing stops will be reconstructed and asphalted. The project will include the arrangement of access roads, lighting, crossings over tracks, and parking spaces, all in agreement with the municipalities.

After the signing of the agreement between the Railways of FBiH, Sarajevo Canton, and the mentioned municipalities, the preparation and finalization of project documentation, obtaining necessary approvals, and announcing the tender procedure for selecting contractors will commence. This will fulfill all prerequisites for the start of the construction of unified railway stops.

"I am extremely satisfied with the results of the subsidized train line Sarajevo – Podlugovi, which has met our expectations in terms of passenger numbers. We are continuing at this pace to reduce traffic congestion and ensure the highest quality public transport, which includes railways," said Prime Minister Uk, thanking all local communities participating in the realization of this significant project.
