(Patria) - The Independent System Operator in BiH (NOS) announced that the circumstances of the failure of a part of the BiH electricity system, which occurred today at 12:25 PM, are being determined.
According to initial information, this happened due to problems in the regional transmission network and overloading of key 400 kilovolt interconnector lines, which resulted in a cascading transmission of disturbances to the BiH electricity system.
NOS BiH states that a similar scenario occurred yesterday when problems arose in the electricity systems of Greece, North Macedonia, Albania, and Montenegro.
- Through timely intervention by operational staff and localization of the problem at the border with Montenegro, the spread of the collapse of the BiH electricity system was prevented. Given that in today's circumstances the disturbance cascaded to Croatia, with which BiH has the largest number of interconnector transmission lines, it was not possible to prevent the collapse of the BiH electricity system - the statement reads.
It is added that the entire region is currently affected by a cascading failure of transmission lines, namely BiH, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, and parts of Serbia.
- Operational steps are being taken towards the gradual connection of consumers and generation units, energizing the main 400 kV and 220 kV substations from the direction of Ugljevik and Tuzla towards Banja Luka, Sarajevo, and Mostar, and from Croatia towards Mostar 4, Prijedor 2, Kakanj, Jablanica. Normalization of the situation is hindered by high voltages in the 400 kV and 220 kV network, which prevent the connection of transmission lines - the statement reads.
NOSBiH notes that, prior to today's incident, the BiH electricity system, which is under constant supervision of NOS BiH operational staff, was operating at full capacity, with normal operating parameters of key electricity facilities in BiH.
