Night Race 'Dženan Memić': Preserving the Memory of His Kindness and a Tragically Extinguished Young Life

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The 1st night race "Dženan Memić" will be held in Velika aleja on Ilidža on August 11, 2018, in memory of the tragically deceased young man who would have turned 24 that day. His death has been shrouded in mystery for over two years, and the family has rejected claims that he died in a traffic accident from the very beginning. The family's fight to uncover the truth and punish all those involved in hiding evidence and intentionally misdirecting the investigation is still ongoing. The trial of Ljubo and Bekrija Seferović for the traffic accident and obstruction of justice is underway, and after the process is concluded, a new investigation is expected to uncover the truth about Dženan's death.

Wishing to preserve a lasting memory of this violently extinguished young life, Dženan's friends and family members decided to organize a memorial walk and race that will be of a humanitarian nature. The walk will begin around 6 PM, and the 5-kilometer race at 8 PM. All participants of the walk and race will receive a specially designed t-shirt, a starting number, and a gift package.

Dženan's sister Arijana tells the Patria agency that Dženan's birthday was always a day of joy and celebration for their family, a day when they would meet with friends. This race should be an opportunity for all of us to meet again, says Arijana, and to remember what our Dženan was like.

When asked about the goal of the race, Arijana states that they wanted to do something worthy of Dženan and all that he did in his life, and then to raise public awareness about the seriousness of this case, as well as the state of the judicial system in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- The Dženan Memić case is not yet resolved. There is an official version, which we all know, and which no one capable of thinking logically and independently believes. And there is the truth. We have sworn to prove the truth and get justice for our Dženan. He loved sports, especially running, since childhood. It relaxed him, kept him in shape, and he most enjoyed running along Velika aleja. Dženan's great-grandfather participated in planting this alley, so the symbolism is even stronger. We, who grew up in this part of the city, know this promenade very well and use it in various ways for the rest of our soul and body.

Dženan's sister also reveals that the family itself discovered many beautiful things about his kindness and the things he did for others after his death.

- Only after his premature death did we start receiving calls, messages, and visits from people whom Dženan had done something good for in one way or another. That is why we are glad that all the proceeds from the entry fees for the walk or race will be donated to charity. The money will go to a foundation that provides scholarships to young and promising talents throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, BH Futures Foundation, then to an association that volunteers in Tuzla, "Bolje sutra" (Better Tomorrow), which is very active in the field of informal education and psycho-social support for children and youth, and to the Association of Sick and Disabled Persons "Blažuj" – explains Arijana.

The initiators of the "Dženan Memić" walk and race idea wanted to create an event that would be repeated year after year and bring together all generations who would thus preserve the memory of this young man.

How to register for the race and how many registrations are expected?

It is possible to register for the race exclusively through the website www.run4dzenan.com, where all details related to the race on August 11 are listed.

Organizers expect around 400 registrations, and the price of a starting position for the walk is 10 KM, while for the race it is 20 KM. All participants will also receive a specially designed dry-fit t-shirt that Mahir Mujić recently wore at a night race in Sarajevo. Mujić is one of the organizers of the 1st Night Race "Dženan Memić".

Race for Justice and Life

Mahir Mujić is a participant in numerous races, and is currently preparing for the "Race for Justice" from Sarajevo to Banja Luka in honor of Dženan Memić and David Dragičević, and for the life of little Dalal Omerović who is fighting leukemia. The intention is to run 200 km from July 4 to July 7 in order to attend the large protests that will be held on July 7 in Krajina Square in Banja Luka.

Mahir will start the race from Velika aleja from the memorial dedicated to Dženan Memić on July 4 at 7 AM. Mujić's race also has a humanitarian character as he is collecting money for Dalal Omerović's treatment, allowing interested individuals to purchase kilometers he will run.

- I am selling my kilometers at a price of 50 KM per kilometer / 5 KM per meter, and all the money collected in this way, I am donating for the treatment of little Dalal Omerović.

- I want to invite you, all good people, friends, acquaintances, and strangers to support me in this endeavor and together with me do something good for all our children, because the future of my children and yours is only as we make it. We could not save Dženan and David, but for Dalal, thank God, it is not too late – so let's do it!
