A Night More Valuable Than a Thousand Months: Hundreds of Citizens Broke Fast at Baščaršija Square in Sarajevo

(Patria) - In the heart of the Old Town at Baščaršija Square, the 27th night of Ramadan, Laylat al-Qadr, was marked with a special iftar for several hundred citizens.

The iftar was organized by the Municipality of Bağcılar, Istanbul, with the support of the Municipality of Stari Grad and the City Administration of Sarajevo.

In his address at Baščaršija Square, Mayor Irfan Čengić thanked the Municipality of Bağcılar, Istanbul, for their wish to host a free iftar for the citizens of Sarajevo, as well as its visitors, on the 27th night.

- We gladly supported the proposal of the Municipality of Bağcılar, Istanbul. I regret that the mayor of this municipality, Abdullah Özdemir, who initiated this event, could not attend the iftar due to obligations.

His closest associates were at the Municipality of Stari Grad today, where we agreed on the continuation and deepening of cooperation with this municipality from Istanbul - said Čengić, adding that the Municipality of Stari Grad already has signed twinning and cooperation agreements with as many as three municipalities from Istanbul; Silivri, Ümraniye, and Fatih.

The Mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić, was also present at the iftar.

- It is truly a pleasure to be with our citizens and numerous visitors in the heart of Sarajevo and the Old Town on this special night of the holy month of Ramadan - said Karić.
