German parliamentarians will meet today to plan the adoption of a law that would effectively prevent the granting of asylum to immigrants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).
Earlier, the two ruling and largest parties in Germany agreed to declare Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Macedonia safe countries, thus speeding up the procedure for processing asylum applications. If such a regulation is adopted, deportations will be faster and authorities will be able to reject asylum applications without explanation. This regulation is a response to the increased number of immigrants to this country since the visa regime was abolished.
However, the Green Party in Germany opposes such a solution. Bundestag member Claudia Roth stated in German media that these plans of Angela Merkel's government are unacceptable, and that life in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Macedonia is not safe for all ethnic groups.
- There you have large camps where people effectively vegetate, and they are exposed to discrimination and pogroms - Roth stated. However, the coalition of the two major parties, CDU and SPD, has a majority in the Bundestag and this regulation will likely be adopted soon.
