Germany is still an obstacle to the EU's new approach to BiH

The arrival of four foreign ministers from the European Union in Sarajevo is a sign that it has been understood that the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina requires a change in EU policy, believes Kurt Basiner, an American analyst from the Center for Democratization Policy.

According to his statement for the BiH news agency Patria (NAP), it is positive that the ministers, including the heads of diplomacy of Great Britain, Croatia, Hungary, and Austria, want to directly see the situation on the ground before the upcoming discussion on BiH at the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.

- I hope that this discussion will be substantive and open. It is good that they are coming themselves to assess the situation, rather than imposing and declaring it – says Basiner.

According to his assessments, there is a real chance that the European Union will take a different and new stance towards BiH, but for now, the biggest obstacle is in Germany.

- Berlin is indecisive in revising the basic lines of European policy towards BiH. Germany calls for what they call "strategic patience". But, as things stand now, time is not working for us or for progress, and there is no real strategy from the international community – Basiner tells NAP.
