Low pollen concentrations in the air until the end of June

(Patria) - "The predicted weather conditions are certainly favorable for people allergic to plant pollen, however, great caution will be needed when the weather stabilizes, because sunny and warm days will favor the pollination of grasses and weeds, which will directly endanger people suffering from allergies", it is stated in the report submitted by the Center for Ecology and Natural Resources - Academician Sulejman Redžić to the Ministry of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of KS.

People allergic to tree pollen are advised to plan their outings according to the guidelines and recommendations from the reports published on the website of the Center for Ecology and Natural Resources - Academician Sulejman Redžić.

All individuals with seasonal rhinitis (hay fever) are advised to contact their primary care physician in case of a change in their clinical condition.

The report from the Center for Ecology and Natural Resources assessed the situation related to the pollen of allergenic plants in the Sarajevo Canton area for the period from June 9 to June 15, 2023.

Through qualitative-quantitative analysis and specific methods used in pollen monitoring, it was determined that the first half of June was marked by extremely low pollen concentrations in the air due to unfavorable weather conditions, specifically: 243 pollen grains/m3 of air at the Pofalići Measuring Station and 267 pollen grains/m3 of air at the Stari Grad Measuring Station.

During the mentioned period, pollen from birch, pine, yew, cypress, and grasses was detected at both measuring stations. The concentration values of birch pollen, as one of the most allergenic woody plants, ranged from 39 (Pofalići MS) to 56 (Stari Grad MS) pollen grains/m3 of air, while the values of pine pollen ranged from 102 (Pofalići MS) to 78 (Stari Grad MS) pollen grains/m3 of air. Grass pollen values ranged from 116 (Pofalići MS) to 96 (Stari Grad MS) pollen grains/m3 of air.

In the same period, a moderate to moderately high concentration of grass pollen was measured in the air (Stari Grad MS), while in the Pofalići MS area, a low to moderately high concentration of grass pollen was measured.

Due to unfavorable weather conditions, significantly lower concentrations of tree pollen and grass pollen were measured in the air during June compared to the same period last year, the Center announced.

As in previous weeks, no dust particles or fungal spores dangerous to allergic individuals were detected on the preparations prepared within the Palynology Laboratory (CEP-SR).
