Svetozar Nišić, president of the Association of Citizens for the Return of Old Foreign Exchange Savings in BiH and the Diaspora, welcomed with enthusiasm the news that the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has made a final ruling holding the Republic of Slovenia responsible for the return of old foreign exchange savings to depositors of branches of "Ljubljanska banka" outside Slovenia, and the Republic of Serbia responsible for the return of this type of savings to depositors of "Invest banka" outside the Republic of Serbia, writes the Patria News Agency.
- I expected such a ruling. Everything must be completed within a year. We are a little dissatisfied with that, because we expected payments within six months. The first ruling was similar, but Slovenia and Serbia appealed to the Grand Chamber, but it confirmed such a ruling, which is most acceptable to us, because there are no more appeals - says Nišić, reminding that the Human Rights Court made a ruling two years ago.
- Now they will also pay large default interest. There are 125,000 depositors of "Ljubljanska banka" in BiH and about 40,000 of "Invest" banka, and we will see the amount of money according to the ruling. I personally have about 197,000 euros, and I had about 120,000 before the appeal. They thought they would get away with it, and now they will pay dearly and more than they should have - added Nišić, specifying that his struggle has lasted for a full 10 years.
According to the ruling, Slovenia owes BiH depositors about 1.2 billion KM, and Serbia about 300 million KM.
