Nikšić: There is nothing unconstitutional in the proposal for mayoral rotation

MOSTAR, (Patria) - SDP BiH President Nermin Nikšić said today in Mostar at the commemoration of 76 years since the liberation of that city from fascism that the election of the mayor of Mostar at tomorrow's continuation of the constitutive session will not depend solely on how the councilors of his party, i.e., the Bosnian Bloc and their partners from the PMP, will behave.

"HDZ and SDA have a two-thirds majority, and we should not ignore HRS, which also has a good election result, and there is also SNSD, and we have offered everyone this story regarding the rotating mayor. I believe there is nothing unconstitutional or illegal about it. No one can challenge an elected mayor's right to resign. So, we are not changing the Statute and we are not embedding anything in the Statute that is not in accordance with the election law," Nikšić points out.

The President of SDP BiH emphasized that depending on how each political bloc positions itself regarding the agreement they are offering, their attitude towards them will also depend when voting for the mayor.

"It is clear to us that HDZ and SDA have a two-thirds majority, just as it is clear that they had some agreement before the elections. And, no one can prevent them from realizing that in any way, if, of course, there is will between them and if they agree. This is just a proposal for a solution, where we are trying to create conditions for all of us to truly work together on solving problems in Mostar, on integration processes, on a European Mostar. And, if they do not accept, we will behave as we said, and we will see who is ready for that. So far, only SDA has said it is ready for that," said Nikšić, Avaz reports.
