Nikšić: SDP will not be a guarantor for Izetbegović, the state of BiH is above all

President of SDP BiH Nermin Nikšić said that the scheduled referendum on September 25 in the RS is unconstitutional and illegal.

- Decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH are final and binding and cannot be changed. This is the culmination of the undermining of BiH and its institutions. Another question is how the Brčko District ended up in the decision of the National Assembly of the RS.

Nikšić also added that it would be better for all of us in BiH if this were just a pre-election story and an attempt to achieve a better position.

- I am not among those who are proponents of conspiracy theories, but there are many arguments showing that this is not a pre-election story and that this is a test balloon for the final dismantling and division of the state of BiH – said Nikšić, adding that the referendum is a topic that destabilizes the situation in BiH.

SDP BiH raises the question of whether citizens in the RS will be any better off after the referendum. Will pensioners have more regular pensions, will the number of jobs increase.

- The question is who will get the ribbon for being the biggest representative and protector of the interests of Serbs in the RS.

Nikšić reminded that on July 20, SDP BiH representatives, along with several other representatives from the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, offered an initiative to discuss this topic within institutions, and it is interesting that the SDA remained silent.

What has changed in this past month. In the meantime, Dodik and Izetbegović met in a tavern and did not talk about the referendum then. Was the security of BiH not threatened at that time? Then they talked about credit indebtedness and the coordination mechanism. SDP will not be a backdrop for anyone, we will not be a guarantor for anyone, least of all for Bakir Izetbegović and the SDA. The state of BiH is above all. We will not remain silent while BiH is used for backroom deals. Who benefits from this situation in BiH – asked Nikšić, adding that if the SDA and SNSD could indebt BiH for a billion KM, then they can sit in the institutions of BiH and seek a solution.

- Also, he added that an atmosphere of „shut up, it's fine, let it not explode“ has been created in BiH, and that they will talk about the referendum, but not about the sale of public companies like Bosnalijek, Sarajevo-Osiguranje, FDS...

Nikšić called on the citizens of BiH not to fall for the stories of those who want to cover up the plunder with this situation, and stated that BiH is nowhere near as weak as it was in 1992.

- We demand that the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and SIPA, which are responsible for preserving the constitutional and legal order, take appropriate measures.  
- We demand and expect that the OHR state its position on the referendum by September 2, because entering the campaign with this compromises the process itself and the local elections. They are the ones who have the authority to make a decision, and the SDP will decide on further steps based on that – said Nikšić.
