Nikšić: US sanctions will not solve the problem, all corruption affairs must be uncovered

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - After the announcement of US sanctions, SDP leader Nermin Nikšić spoke. We publish the statement in full.

"Today's announcement of sanctions imposed by the US administration on Milorad Dodik, as usual, has caused diametrically opposite feelings and attitudes among us.

From those disappointed, because we are all aware that the list of those who deserve sanctions is much longer, to those who rejoice because it has finally been made clear who the “bad guy” is in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

I believe there is no room for excessive disappointment, nor for rejoicing or any kind of euphoria. I belong to people who wholeheartedly wish for Bosnia and Herzegovina to be a normal country where its institutions will function, fully professionally and impartially promoting the rule of law and sanctioning all politicians who in any way violate the law.

I live for the day when all corruption affairs throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina will finally be uncovered and prosecuted by the judiciary.

Only then will citizens learn the real truth about who is robbing them and in what way. Then the citizens will judge the chieftains on all sides in the 2022 elections, which is the sanction they fear the most.

Of course, the sanctions themselves will not solve the problems we have in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but they are not only welcome but also necessary.

I welcome and fully support the concrete actions taken by the United States of America in sanctioning Milorad Dodik, who is becoming an increasing problem, not only for Bosnia and Herzegovina but for the entire region.

I am glad that our sincere friends from the USA are showing readiness to clearly name those who are the cause of the destruction of the state, the legal system, and promoters of corruption. Unfortunately, I think this scope of sanctions will not be enough to stop the tide of state destruction.

It is clear that the dark forces have alternative, grey sources of funding, either from the country and public funds they abuse, or from abroad, from those who support and encourage the destabilization of our state.

Therefore, I hope this is just an introduction to more extensive judicial, economic, and political activities and sanctions that are necessary in cooperation with friends from the European Union and Great Britain. With this act, the USA has once again confirmed that they are a proven friend to our state and all its citizens", Nikšić said.
