Nikšić: I am not giving up on the unification of the left because we need it

President of the SDP BiH Nermin Nikšić was a guest on the show Na kraju dana on TV Pink BH where he said he will not give up on the unification of the left because he is convinced it is necessary, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

- This is best seen from the results of the 2014 elections. We committed a crime, we divided ourselves and fought over the electorate. When you look at it, the left did not lose many votes, but those votes were divided and thus the influence of both parties (SDP and DF) in government was minimized – said Nikšić, stating that there is interest from both parties for unification.

Nikšić also explained that after the Congress, the SDP will make all decisions together with its membership, either through a referendum or a survey.

When asked how to win back voters by the municipal elections, Nikšić said they spent eight months restoring mutual trust within the party itself.

- We lost some threads within the SDP. The work within the party is not finished and it will take time to restore that level, but it is time to start acting much more actively politically. After the Congress, we will more actively engage in what a political party exists for and be in the field with people. The SDP wants to be a party of the whole of BiH – said Nikšić.

When asked whether the DF will be punished by voters in the upcoming elections, Nikšić said that „there will certainly be consequences for all political parties“.

- For the next local elections, we must create a Platform, primarily of the left. We negotiated with HDZ 1990 and SBB to form a bloc of the left plus civic parties to jointly field lists and candidates for mayors. So that this bloc wins the largest number of mayoral positions – said Nikšić.

Nikšić also said that the borrowing of the pension fund is catastrophic and that the best example of this is the RS Fund.

- We will do everything in the Parliament to prevent that from happening – said Nikšić.
