Nikšić, Lakić and Buljubašić visit RMU Kreka: Increase coal quantities in mines and stabilise the electricity situation

(Patria) - Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nermin Nikšić stated today after visiting the Kreka Brown Coal Mine in Tuzla that the Government of the Federation of BiH is seeking models to ensure coal extraction is at a satisfactory level for JP Elektroprivreda BiH, so that the Federation of BiH has enough electricity for its own needs and for export. Prime Minister Nikšić was accompanied on the visit to RMU Kreka by the Federal Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry Vedran Lakić, as well as the General Director of JP EP BiH Sanel Buljubašić.

The Federal Prime Minister emphasised that the miners and the management of this mine have responded positively to the measures of the Government of the Federation of BiH and Elektroprivreda BiH implemented over the past three years and that they are leaders in coal production.

- Based on what we heard here, there is a perspective for the mine, and we were also informed that a competition has been announced for hiring new miners, for which there is great interest. This shows that people again see an opportunity and believe in what is being done here, and they also have information that the standard of miners has increased considerably recently – said Prime Minister Nikšić.

He added that the Government of the Federation of BiH will try next week to prepare a legal solution for consolidation, which would be a huge step forward for RMU Kreka because by selling non-perspective assets, they would create funds for linking the service years of some miners, as well as further prerequisites for the development of the mine.

The General Director of Elektroprivreda BiH, Sanel Buljubašić, emphasised that the meeting resulted in concrete programmes to be developed in the coming period in order to achieve additional coal quantities in the mines of the Concern and create a more stable situation with electricity production.

He reminded that Elektroprivreda BiH produces about 80 percent of its electricity in thermal power plants, which is why the stability of the mines is extremely important for the stability of the energy sector in the Federation of BiH.
