Nikšić and Bajramović signed a joint statement on the Labour Law

At a meeting of representatives of the Independent Trade Union Confederation of BiH and the Social Democratic Party of BiH, held today in Sarajevo, the presidents of the Trade Union and SDP BiH, Ismet Bajramović and Nermin Nikšić, signed a joint statement condemning the FBiH Government's decision to submit the Labour Law to parliamentary procedure without prior agreement with the trade unions of BiH.

As announced by the SDP, the Draft Labour Law proposed by the FBiH Government, led by SDA and HDZ, will not receive the support of the Social Democratic Party of BiH.

This is a law that brutally degrades workers' rights, weakens the position of trade unions, and ultimately aims to reduce workers' wages. One of its first consequences will be the collapse of the pension system in the Federation of BiH. It is clear that this is preparing the ground for easier sale of state resources, which is obviously the only goal of the current irresponsible government.

- The manner in which the FBiH Government determined the proposal of such an important law, completely ignoring social dialogue and violating all procedural rules to get the law on the agenda of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH as soon as possible, is completely unacceptable. A government that is prepared, as its first move in four months of power, to reduce workers' rights and favour the interests of tycoons should immediately step down - the SDP stated.

It is emphasized that the SDP BiH gives full support to the justified demands of the Independent Trade Union Confederation of BiH and announces the continuation of the political struggle against the adoption of such a Labour Law, and the dismissal of the current government.

- We will never support a law whose key motive is to create a legal framework for easier dismissal of workers, reduction of wages and other workers' rights. Anyone who demands such a thing from the BiH authorities does not wish this country well - the SDP emphasized.
