It is no longer a question of what Dodik can say, but how long the Prosecutor's Office can remain silent

Written by: Amina Čorbo-Zećo

Ahead of the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, once again appeared in public with a brutal denial of facts established by the verdicts of the highest international courts.

Disputing the number of victims, claims that they were "predominantly soldiers," and accusations that the lists are being manipulated represent not only a moral collapse but also an open violation of the Law on the Prohibition of Genocide Denial.

Dodik goes even further, insulting the very foundations of a post-genocide society, calling the concept of a civic BiH "liberal crap" and Bosniak political demands a "scam."

All of this, clearly, without any reaction from the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

That is precisely why the statement by the Head of the EU Delegation to BiH, Luigi Soreca, is not surprising either. After a meeting with the Chief Prosecutor of BiH, he sent a message that 'the fight against genocide denial and glorification of war crimes should also be strengthened, with the judiciary addressing this issue more effectively.'

However, the question is who will strengthen it if the Chief Prosecutor does not see a problem? And Milanko Kajganić obviously does not see it, or is just going through the motions to do nothing.

If institutions do not react even when genocide denial is presented at public events, in front of cameras, continuously, what can be expected next.

As long as the Prosecutor's Office of BiH remains silent and selective in its actions, Milorad Dodik will freely and with impunity spread revisionism, insult survivors, and endanger justice and reconciliation.

In a country where laws are not enforced and verdicts are not respected, truth remains a hostage of political power.

Therefore, the real question is no longer what Dodik can say, but how long the Prosecutor's Office of BiH intends to remain silent.
