Independent Board Makes Final Proposal to Dismiss Commissioner Halilović

SARAJevo, (Patria) - The Independent Board for the Election and Review of the Police Commissioner made a final proposal decision today to dismiss the current commissioner of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mevludin Halilović, confirmed the president of the Independent Board, Miroslav Kružik, after the session.  

The Independent Board assessed the work of the police commissioner for 2018 with a rating of "unsatisfactory," which was also confirmed by the KS Government. The objection filed by Commissioner Halilović was rejected by the Government, and the Independent Board today made a final decision that will be forwarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs of KS, Admir Katica, and then delegated to the agenda of the KS Government, which will make the final decision. 

In the explanation of the negative assessment, Halilović's work in 2018 was problematized, particularly the failure to conduct disciplinary proceedings in the Police Directorate of the MUP of KS regarding the Dženan Memić case, as well as the promotion of police officers, retirement, selective application of the law, and the deteriorated security situation. Halilović has repeatedly stated that the Independent Board's assessment is politically motivated and that he will use all means to protect his rights.

Given that a personnel change was made in the Police Directorate at the beginning of March, if Halilović is dismissed, Vahid Ćosić, the head of the Uniformed Police Sector of the Police Directorate, will be appointed as acting commissioner. Ćosić was the police commissioner for seven years and was dismissed in November 2016.
