Independent Board to Review Nikšić and Munjić's Correspondence and the Director Appointment Process

(Patria) - The Independent Board of the FBiH Parliament will hold a regular session on October 27, which will also discuss the current situation after the publication of messages exchanged between the acting director of the Federal Police Administration (FUP) Vahidin Munjić and the FBiH Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić, in which the Prime Minister asked Munjić for the FUP to "nail some criminal" and inquired about the investigation into Autoceste FBiH. Nikšić confirmed the authenticity of the messages and sees nothing wrong with corresponding with Munjić, although he thereby violated the Law on Internal Affairs of FBiH.

The President of the Independent Board, Amar Hadžiomerović, confirmed to Patria that the Independent Board forwards all submissions received regarding irregularities in the work of the FUP and its acting director to POSKOK, and two reports have been forwarded for processing in the last few months.

According to the Law on Internal Affairs of FBiH, the Independent Board monitors the work of the police director and reports to the Parliament of the Federation, the Government of the Federation, and the Minister on the director's work. Furthermore, the Independent Board is competent for conducting the first-instance disciplinary proceedings against the director and imposing disciplinary measures, and one of its responsibilities is the dismissal of the director, or rather, it submits a proposal for the dismissal of the director to the Government of FBiH.

We remind you that Munjić has been the acting director of the FUP since May 2023, since the new FBiH Government headed by Nikšić was appointed. The position of FUP director has been vacant since 2019, and the last public competition was announced in 2022. Munjić was arrested in April 2024 in the "Black Tie 2" operation, but the FBiH Government extended his mandate as acting director even after his arrest.

When asked about the stage of this competition and when the appointment of the FUP director can be expected, Hadžiomerović stated that they have sent inquiries to both the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Government of FBiH precisely to obtain information on whether this competition has been concluded, or whether the FBiH Government has made a decision on the candidates.

Only after receiving the necessary answers will the Independent Board decide on further steps, as they are responsible for announcing and conducting the competition for the appointment of the police director, as well as the deputy director of the FUP, as this position is also vacant.

The members of the Independent Board are: Amar Hadžiomerović, Samir Mehić, Melisa Ahmić, Viktorija Damjanović, Ivan Vegar, Mladen Milosavljević, and Arben Murtezić.
