Neum Residents in Fear: Expecting an Extremely Bad Season Due to Floods

There are still no precise figures for the damages caused by the unprecedented floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but expert forecasts say that recovery will take years. The entire economy is "shaken", and so is tourism, and as the Patria News Agency has learned, Neum residents fear an extremely bad season.

The president of the Neum Tourist Association, Davor Krešić, told NAP that it is evident that this season will be worse, as Neum was mostly visited by BiH citizens, and they are already certain that there will be negative consequences.

- As for hotel accommodation, it will be less affected, as it is mostly foreign guests who are accommodated there. However, it will have a significant impact on private accommodation, as 90 percent of the guests there are domestic. These guests are generally the generators of non-pension consumption, so it will certainly have an impact. Plus, the entire seventh month is Ramadan, and we estimate that even the diaspora will help those affected more than they will vacation - Krešić told NAP.

 He added that there are no major cancellations for now, but there are no major bookings either.

- It's too early to do any analysis, but people are in fear because they practically live off of it - Krešić added.
