SARAJEVO, (Patria) – The discrepancy in the number of new coronavirus cases reported by the Federal Institute of Public Health and individual cantonal institutes has been evident multiple times, and today this difference is more than obvious. It is clear that someone in the data submission system has failed, making today's report on the number of new cases in the FBiH in the past 24 hours very confusing, not to say untrue.
The Federal Institute of Public Health announced that 769 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, of which 189 were positive. New cases were registered in six cantons (USK, SBK, HNK, ZHK, ZDK, KS).
However, if we look at the report that arrived today from the Institute of Public Health of KS, it is clear that something is wrong with the aggregate data.
In KS, 837 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, of which 274 were newly infected. This means that in KS, there were more infected individuals in the past 24 hours than the Federal Institute reported for the entire FBiH (189), which supposedly includes Sarajevo Canton.
In days when BiH is facing an evident increase in new infections and when several strains of coronavirus have been discovered, and we still do not have a vaccine against Covid 19, such disproportionate data only further unsettles the population.
The weekly incidence in KS is extremely high, and in the past seven days, it amounts to 522 per 100,000 inhabitants. The average daily number of new infections is 314.
If the number of new infections shows such a significant difference, it is very possible that we also have untrue data on the actual number of deaths from Covid 19.
One of the additional problems is the publication of data for Sarajevo Canton. The Institute of Public Health of KS publishes retroactive data for the previous day, while, for example, KCUS provides updates on tested samples up to three times a day. It has happened multiple times that even these data do not match.
