Unnecessary media frenzy: Citizenship review will not jeopardize the rights of any BiH citizen

The Minister of Civil Affairs of BiH, Adil Osmanović, along with his associates, informed representatives of the Association of Citizens of Sandžak Origin about the citizenship review process during a meeting. The Minister emphasized the Ministry of Civil Affairs' desire to clarify all misunderstandings that arose from the General Call for all persons who acquired citizenship of Bosnia and Herzegovina by naturalization after April 6, 1992, and before January 1, 2006. It was emphasized that the review does not apply to:

- All those who acquired BiH citizenship based on residence in the territory of BiH on April 6, 1992, and held citizenship of one of the former SFRY republics

- All those who acquired BiH citizenship based on two years of residence by the time the Law on Citizenship of BiH entered into force on January 1, 1998

- All those who acquired BiH citizenship based on three years of residence in the territory of BiH by January 1, 2000

- All those who acquired BiH citizenship based on the agreement on dual citizenship of BiH with another country

- All those who acquired BiH citizenship by decision of the Council of Ministers of BiH as persons of special interest to BiH.

Minister Osmanović reiterated that citizenships will not be revoked after the deadline, after October 5, 2016.

- The Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina will carefully consider each individual case, and fully and correctly establish all legally relevant facts - said Minister Adil Osmanović.

It was also clarified during the conversation that persons for whom a citizenship review procedure has previously been conducted are not required to resubmit the documentation requested by this General Call.

Representatives of the Association of Citizens of Sandžak Origin expressed their satisfaction with the clarifications provided at the meeting, and future cooperation with the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH was agreed upon.
