The Unbearable Burden of Injustice

Fifteen million marks earmarked for salary increases and allowances for elected representatives of the people based on an increase in the base used to calculate their earnings, and eighteen million marks from the budget used to finance their parties, is more than enough to treat all children suffering from serious illnesses, all their surgeries at home and abroad, and even post-operative treatments, and I am sure there would be some change left over to subsidise medications for several dozen patients with rare diseases and metabolic disorders. If we added to the above sum the several tens or hundreds of millions that end up who knows where as para-fiscal levies, the care of the people's and national guardians and protectors of national interests would finally gain some form of concretisation, not to say a human face. That kind of action, alliance, community, front... unfortunately, we will hardly ever experience, just as we will never see any kind of unity, empathy, or sympathy in the sense of a single-nation representative giving up a flat fee for, say, scholarships for particularly gifted children, even if those children were all Bosniaks, Serbs, or Croats.

On the other hand, I doubt that SDA members would accept having a Bosniak tumour, that Serbs would welcome Serbian cancer with traditional Serbian hospitality, that Croats would even host "Croatian" leukemia as a guest, just as I do not believe that any leftist in Bosnia and Herzegovina would agree to have their right lung removed.

Instead of a single noble initiative, day after day we hear about jostling for functions and positions from which no one except the occupiers and sitters has ever benefited nor ever will, too many promises that – except for ugly ones – have never been fulfilled, and lies that have never faced any sanction whatsoever... We have seen too many unpleasant, unsympathetic, and repulsive faces that return to TV screens like persistent unwanted herpes that you no longer know what to do with... We have not seen a single state plan, programme, or project that, in content, scope, and coverage, transcends entity, let alone state borders, and whose ownership and property card extends beyond the framework of three or four surnames... and the biggest state problem is whether the Croat Assembly will or will not be with the SDA! ...and in Bosnia and Herzegovina, basic cytostatics and reagents for any test beyond a basic blood test are regularly lacking...

The situation changes by example, not by wish and opinion. Sooner or later, one of the Bosnian, Herzegovinian, Bosniak, Serbian, Croatian... politicians must start living in reality. The reality is constitutional, factual, de facto, and sufficiently cynical in particular: Bosnia and Herzegovina, two entities, at least three peoples, a three-member Presidency, Bosniaks (still) as the majority population, the most interested and most responsible for the state of the country, Serbs as a fact to be respected, Croats – regardless of how many there are – as a decisive factor without which nothing can be done... The reality is that no one here will or can rename, secede, or introduce anything...

I have heard of various courts: the court of history, the court of science, the court of expertise, municipal, cantonal, constitutional, Sharia court(!)... I also know of the verdicts of some of them, but none of that matters because it is mostly just about law, and extremely rarely, at the level of an incident, about justice... This is supported by the fact that at the countless universities in this country, about 20,000 lawyers are being educated. God grant that among them there is at least one righteous person.

Is there a greater cynicism than when a man in his sixties says that the next year should be dedicated to young people? The answer would be: probably there is... perhaps in appointing a sixty-year-old minister for youth, or perhaps in the slogan that the future belongs to the young (because, when that future comes, those "young" will already be old). Unfortunately, that is not the greatest, and certainly not the last cynicism with which the government that neither celebrates nor believes in God or man, and therefore celebrates and glorifies human stupidity and vanity, has been driving us out of our minds for a quarter of a century and, finally, out of the country, and those from the first paragraph of this text into the ground.

No matter how much it seems to you that all of the above, or at least some of it, is the ultimate cynicism, it is not. The greatest cynicism I have ever heard would be that all these parties, organisations, communities, blocs, and fronts have their own court of honour, if it were not for the cynical fact that these courts have never delivered a single verdict. No matter how cynical and bad that seems to you, there is one good thing in all of this: if there are no verdicts from the "court of honour," it is the best indicator that there is no honour in them or among them. In other words, there may be people there, but there is certainly no humanity. 
Therefore, it would not be a bad idea for the announced moral renewal to start with giving up on more regular procurement of cytostatics, drawing up slightly more concrete and fairer basic lists of medicines, slightly more serious social and medical care, or at least stopping the financing of parties from the budget... step by step...
