Unjustified increase in study costs at UNSA

The Federal Ministry of Education and Science considers the announced increase in tuition fees at public higher education institutions in the Sarajevo Canton to be unjustified and unfounded, a decision made by the Senate of the University of Sarajevo on June 25, reports Patria.

- Such proposals, which would increase the costs of the first and second cycles of study for certain faculties by up to two times, are particularly unjustified. Proponents and decision-makers of such decisions should take into account the current state and overall situation in our country and bear in mind that an increase in tuition fees for the student population comes at the worst possible time - state the FMON.

As further stated, any proposal for an increase in costs, especially for studies, must contain a justified and detailed explanation based on real parameters, as well as consider the current situation in society and its social dimension.

- We hope and believe that the academic community and cantonal authorities, the University's Governing Board, and the Government of Sarajevo Canton will show understanding towards the student population and reject the proposal to increase study costs in Sarajevo Canton - the statement reads, reports Patria.
