Nenad Pržulj indicted for crimes against Bosniaks

The Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH has filed an indictment against Nenad Pržulj, born on 15.09.1957 in Sokolac, where he resides, a citizen of BiH, reports the news agency Patria.

The accused is charged with participating, during the war in BiH, from mid-May 1992 to mid-1993, as the guard commander and detention facility commander in the premises of the elementary school in the village of Čavarine, Sokolac municipality, in the detention, enforced disappearance of persons, and other inhumane acts, as well as the persecution of the civilian Bosniak population in the area of Sokolac municipality.

He is charged with participating in October 1992 in Sokolac, along with several other soldiers, in the unlawful transfer of thirty-nine detained civilians – Bosniaks, from the detention facility of the elementary school in Sokolac to the elementary school in the village of Čavarine, where they, along with several other civilians, were placed in two unsuitable rooms without any light, where the detainees stayed in inhumane conditions, without electricity or heating, sleeping on the floor, and using buckets for sanitation.

He is charged with transferring several detained Bosniak civilians from the police station building to the detention facility of the elementary school in the village of Čavarine in early October 1992, and unlawfully detaining them.

The accused is also charged with participating, along with another guard and soldiers, in the beating of a detained civilian, hitting him with hands and feet on various parts of his body, causing the victim to lose consciousness, inflicting severe physical and psychological injuries, as well as knowing about and failing to prevent the beatings of detained civilians by a guard subordinate to him and by Serb soldiers who would take detainees out of the rooms into the corridor and upstairs, where they would beat them with fists, feet, and various sharp objects.

In March 1993, the accused, along with several other guards, participated in taking out six detained civilians, under the pretext that they would be released, and handed them over to members of the RS military police, who drove them away in an unknown direction, and since then all trace of them has been lost.

The accused is charged with the criminal offense of Crimes Against Humanity under Article 172 of the Criminal Code of BiH. The indictment has been forwarded to the Court of BiH, it was announced from the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.
