Let authorities determine the location for protests

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton confirmed for the Patria News Agency that they have sent an initiative for the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton, in accordance with the competences prescribed by Article 14 of the Law on Public Assembly, upon the proposal of the Government of Sarajevo Canton, to adopt, as soon as possible, an act on determining spaces for peaceful gatherings whose organizer is unknown.

They further requested that the aforementioned proposal be based on the recommendations of municipal councils, which will propose at least one location in their municipality to the Cantonal Government, which would significantly contribute to preventing traffic blockades in the future.

- The initiative was sent due to frequent traffic blockades on the busiest streets and intersections of Sarajevo, which prevent the normal flow of traffic and have multiple impacts on the daily obligations of citizens, the work of emergency services, firefighters, public transport, and other service providers, as well as on the overall functioning of Sarajevo Canton - say the MUP KS.

Also, the MUP KS states that the protest gatherings of citizens, which have been held daily since February 7 in front of the BiH Presidency building and at the intersection of Maršala Tita and Alipašina streets, have not been announced.

- Given that the KS Assembly ordered by its Conclusion from the session held on February 12 that, in accordance with the Law on Public Assembly and other regulations, it ensures the participants of peaceful demonstrations, the MUP KS, in accordance with its competences, has undertaken certain activities to implement the aforementioned Conclusion, which in the given circumstances represents activities on regulating and redirecting traffic via alternative routes - added the MUP KS.
