Some children live ten minutes away from Sarajevo, but never enter any of its museums

The Foundation Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB) and the Museum of Literature and Theatre Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina are implementing a series of events from October 5 to 10, 2015, within the framework of the project "Literature for All Children", it was announced from CHwB, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

Several dozen students from regular schools and schools for special education and upbringing from the Sarajevo Canton area will participate in the preparation and performance of a play, exhibitions, and workshops inspired by the literary works of Ahmet Hromadžić and Branko Ćopić.

The play prepared by the students during the workshops will be performed during the "Family Day" on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at the premises of the Museum of Literature and Theatre Arts of BiH, while on Wednesday, October 7, 2015, a round table for educators and librarians will be organized at this museum on various methodologies for the inclusion of children in schools.

The director of the Museum of Literature and Theatre Arts of BiH, Šejla Šehabović, said that the right to access culture is a human right – and in our society, there is almost no awareness of it.

- It is enough to say that there are children who grow up living ten minutes away from Sarajevo, and yet never enter any of the capital city's museums. It is, therefore, easy to imagine to what extent access to culture is denied to children with some form of disability. This is one of the most beautiful undertakings of our Museum. I want us to learn as much as possible from the children who have joined us about their needs, so that we can utilize all the advantages that collaborative work offers. They are our future audience. Now we have the opportunity to nurture a museum audience – and they have the opportunity to participate in shaping the museum to their measure – said Šehabović.

The works of Ahmet Hromadžić and Branko Ćopić, as well as the exhibition dedicated to their work, have been adapted for children with various types of disabilities, and presented in audio and video formats, as well as in Braille.

The project coordinator of CHwB, Aida Salketić, said that the people from the Foundation wanted their activities during this week to be accessible to all participants, because they all have equal rights to enjoy the fantastic creative work of writers. They are satisfied with the response and interest from schools, as well as the dedication of the Museum of Literature and Theatre Arts of BiH to this project and work with children.
