NEGATIVE TRENDS: At the end of February, only 87,854 more workers than pensioners in FBiH

(Patria) - The difference between the number of employed and the number of pensioners in February is only 87,854, which is 2,576 fewer than in January.

At the end of January, the difference between the number of employed and the number of pensioners in FBiH was 90,430.

Thus, 457,276 beneficiaries received pensions for February, and 456,433 beneficiaries for January. At the end of February, the number of employed persons based on employee residence as of 02/28/2025 was 545,130.

Due to the increase in the minimum wage from 620 to 1000 KM, business entities have closed down because some smaller crafts or companies could not bear the additional costs, leading to a reduction in the number of workers. All of this contributed to a decrease of 1,733 employed persons at the end of February compared to January.

However, due to the increase in wages and contributions that employers are obliged to pay, contribution collection is higher by 70 million KM in February compared to January, despite the decrease in the number of employed persons.

Regarding the age structure, an influx of new pensioners can be expected in the coming months and years. If this is not accompanied by an increase in the number of workers, the collection of contributions from the existing number of workers in FBiH will not be sufficient to finance pensions. The FBiH Government previously stated that during 2024, they had to add 511 million KM to ensure timely and orderly pension payments.
