Nedžad Husić wins bronze at European Taekwondo Championship under 21

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - At the European Taekwondo Championship for younger seniors under 21, held in Helsingborg, Sweden, representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nedžad Husić won a bronze medal.

Husić won the medal in the category up to 68 kg, after being free in the first round, and then defeating representatives of Serbia, Armenia and the host Sweden. In the semi-finals, he was defeated in an excellent fight by Russian representative Sarmat Tcakoev, the top seed, current European vice-champion, and also winner of the World Cup.

In addition to Husić, 13 competitors took part in the European Championship in Sweden, led by national team coach Haris Husić. Among the competitors are nine representatives of the Taekwondo Club Novi Grad: Nedžad Husić, David Marušić, Ajna Makaš, Ajla Reizbegović, Kerim Omerbegović, Katarina Krajišnik, Ali Rašidagić, Edna Abaspahić and Sadmir Habibović, who was stopped in the fight for a medal in the category up to 63 kg, ultimately finishing in fifth place.

In addition to them, BiH was represented by Matej Orlović from Taekwondo Club Magone, Milica Karanović from Club Derventa, Dora Marušić from Club Mladost, and Žiko Simeunović from Club Sokol.

“For Nedžad, this is just another step on the path to the top. Proof that consistent work can achieve top results. With previous trophies, bronze medals from the World Junior and European Championships, and a placement among the top 8 seniors in the world, Nedžad is certainly one of the most quality and most successful athletes in the country. All of this is the result of a meticulously planned training program and competition appearances, with the help of primarily the Taekwondo Association of BiH, municipal, cantonal, federal, state institutions and of course the media,” said his father and coach Haris Husić.
