Don't forget to set your clocks back: Tonight the risk of heart attack drops by 21 percent

In accordance with the Law on Time Calculation, winter time begins on Sunday, 25 October 2015.

At that time, clocks will be set back by 60 minutes, so the time at 3 hours 00 minutes 00 seconds will be counted as 2 hours 00 minutes 00 seconds, announced the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Policy.

Regarding "winter time," a US study showed that moving the clock forward by one hour and losing one hour of sleep increases the risk of heart attack by up to 25 percent the following Monday compared to other Mondays of the year. On the other hand, the risk of heart attack decreases by 21 percent on the first Tuesday after the clock is set back to standard time and people sleep one hour longer.

Experts reached this conclusion by analysing data on patient admissions to hospitals in Michigan. They studied admissions before the switch to daylight saving time and those on the Monday after, for four consecutive years.
