Lionel Messi, captain of the Argentine national team, said that his national team made many mistakes in the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Sunday, including playing with two instead of three forwards.
As reported by buenosairesherald.com, Messi said that he does not count Argentina among the best teams at the World Cup so far.
- I think the best teams are the Netherlands and Germany. But there are also teams that have not yet shown what they can do, and it is difficult to draw conclusions based on one match. As the World Cup progresses, the teams will improve – said Messi.
Messi commented on Spain's 1-5 loss to the Netherlands, stating that no one expected it, while Germany thrashed Portugal 4-0 in their first match at the World Cup.
Messi also said that he hopes Argentina will continue to play with three forwards, as they did in the second half against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
- I think we should focus on ourselves, not on the opponent – emphasized Messi.
World media have widely reported that Argentina was lucky to finish the first half with a 1-0 score, thanks to an own goal by Bosnian player Sead Kolašinac. Coach Alejandro Sabella himself admitted that his initial plan was not successful and that the second half gave Messi more space to play.
Incidentally, on Saturday, Argentina plays against Iran, and Bosnia and Herzegovina plays against Nigeria. Meanwhile, Nigeria and Iran played to a goalless draw last night, reports Patria News Agency.
