INVESTIGATION CONTINUES IN TRAM ACCIDENT: ERDOAN MORANKIĆ FROM BRČKO KILLED, INJURED GIRL'S CONDITION STILL SERIOUS

(Patria) - In a tram accident in Sarajevo that occurred on Thursday when a tram derailed and hit a tram stop, a young man from Brčko, Erdoan Morankić, who was studying in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was killed.

Morankić was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo.

At the time of the accident, Morankić was at the tram stop when a tram from the direction of the train station suddenly derailed and hit the stop where passengers were located.

One of the injured in this accident is 17-year-old Ela, who had her leg amputated and is being treated at the General Hospital in Sarajevo. Her condition is still serious.

The other three injured were transferred to the University Clinical Center of Sarajevo (KCUS), but their current health condition is unknown. All injured persons were at the tram stop at the time of the accident.

The investigation, under the supervision of the acting prosecutors, continues today, the KS Prosecutor's Office announced yesterday. Mechanical and traffic engineering experts have been engaged to determine the exact causes of this accident.

The Cantonal Minister of Transport, Adnan Šteta, issued a statement on Thursday evening, stating that it is not the time for speculation.

"I understand the outrage, fear, and anxiety of the citizens. I am also a father and I share the feeling of gravity that the entire city feels today. Today, families deserve for us to show dignity towards them and to show respect for the deceased young man and the injured persons. As the responsible minister, I can promise at this moment that all aspects of public transport operation will be further examined without exception. Upon completion of the investigation and after all facts and all omissions are determined, they will have a name and surname. I will insist on full responsibility and sanctions. The safety of citizens, and especially children, must and will remain above all else," Šteta stated.
