Classes in schools in KS will begin with the singing of the BiH anthem

Classes in primary and secondary schools in the Sarajevo Canton will begin with the singing of the anthem of Bosnia and Herzegovina this, and all subsequent school years and semesters.

This is one of the conclusions from today's meeting between the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Elmedin Konaković and the Minister of Education, Science and Youth of KS Elvir Kazazović with academics and members of the special expert body of the Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law, led by its former president Smail Čekić. They discussed the implementation of the initiative by non-governmental organizations "Truth about Genocide and the Siege of Sarajevo", the introduction of changes in the curricula of primary and secondary schools, and the Law on Education of KS. The start of the implementation of this initiative, proposed by Sejfudin Tokić, an external associate of the Institute, was unanimously supported.

- Today we discussed some shortcomings in our education system, as well as the work of this Institute, which is a member of the University of Sarajevo, its position in the process of education and training in the Canton. We agreed that the textbook policy in KS is not adequate for the times we live in, because our predecessors avoided the opportunity for our children to learn the true history that happened in Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina - said Prime Minister Konaković.

He also emphasized that our children must learn more about the siege of Sarajevo, its suffering, the genocide in Srebrenica, and more about the perpetrators who are responsible in international legal proceedings, convicted, and serving sentences in prisons.

He also explained that the introduction of singing the anthem aims to strengthen our children's awareness of the importance of our country, its symbols, its flag.

- This is the beginning of our very serious cooperation with the Institute, with which we want to significantly strengthen the positions of Bosnian history, the Bosnian language, which is not adequately treated in our textbooks, the representation of Bosnian writers in them, and place them in the position they deserve - announced Prime Minister Konaković, adding that the truth that is not heard enough from the canton encourages those forces that write in textbooks in RS that convicted war criminals are actually heroes.

He believes that there are currently many distorted facts in BiH and that they will not allow textbooks to state that a civil war happened in BiH. He also emphasized that the KS Government will discuss these topics more "boldly" already in this school year.

The initiator of the meeting, the president of the Bosniak Movement for the Equality of Peoples, Sejfudin Tokić, emphasized that the ultimate goal of the meeting is to enable the formulations from court verdicts to become an integral part of the curricula in KS, as well as in other cantons.

- No one has the right to compromise with the truth, and this is about falsification, because our curricula in this canton do not contain the truth from relevant documents, such as court verdicts - explained Tokić.

Minister Kazazović highlighted the need for certain changes in the subject of history, and announced a meeting for tomorrow with the active teachers of this subject who will propose concrete solutions in this regard.

He also emphasized that from this school year, he will ask all principals that schools must have the national symbols of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina in their interior spaces, as well as outside on their buildings.
