Classes start tomorrow, but teachers are missing; Minister Krivić says it's up to the schools

SARAJEVO, (Patria) – Classes in primary and secondary schools in the Sarajevo Canton begin tomorrow, and some primary schools are still not fully prepared for classes because they are missing teachers for certain subjects. 

The Minister of Education, Science and Youth of the Sarajevo Canton, Anis Krivić, has been informed about this problem.

“Schools have the option to engage staff in accordance with Article 115 of the Collective Agreement (for preschool education and primary education and upbringing, op.a.). We have duly notified the schools about all of this in a timely manner. The actual implementation is up to the schools. Since some classes are missing, we have stated in the notification on the implementation of the school year that some classes will not be conducted in regular classes but will be held online, such as physical education,” Krivić told Patria. 

Given that the decision on how classes will be conducted has been made for the first two weeks, Minister Krivić explained that a new decision will be made based on the epidemiological situation.

“We will sit down and monitor the epidemiological situation and then, accordingly, make a decision on the further continuation of the implementation of the new school year, whether it will be for all schools or if we will make individual plans, we will see,” Krivić said. 

In the Sarajevo Canton, they decided on a combined model, i.e., the implementation of both regular and online classes.  

More job postings to fill vacant positions in secondary schools were published in the last week of August alone.
