Violence has never stifled freedom of speech, nor will it in Kukić's case

Following the attack on Professor Slavo Kukić yesterday in his office in Mostar, Professor Ivan Cvitković from the Faculty of Political Science in Sarajevo and President of the Committee for Sociological Sciences at the Department of Social Sciences of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has spoken out, reports the BH News Agency Patria. 

Cvitković stated that democracy is pathetic when the main argument is a beating. However, he notes that violence has never been able to stifle freedom of speech, and it will not happen in Kukić's case either.

- I am very concerned about the emergence of right-wing political orientation, which was evident in the attack on Slavo Kukić – Cvitković told the Patria news agency.

- As the President of the Committee for Sociological Sciences, of which Kukić is a member, I can only strongly condemn this act.  But I want to say that violence has never succeeded in stifling freedom of speech, and it will not this time either – says Cvitković.

Slavo Kukić, a doctor of sociological sciences and a professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Mostar, was beaten yesterday in his office in Mostar. An unknown person, whom Kukić described as a 35-year-old man in a black suit, burst into his office and inflicted injuries to his head and back.

Kukić said that he was most likely attacked because he condemned the presence of leaders of the Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HDZ BiH) at the welcome reception for convicted war criminal Dario Kordić in Busovača last weekend, writes Patria.
