We Must Not Forget Our Heroes!

Dr. Mustafa Cerić, an independent candidate for the Bosniak member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, congratulated General Nedžad Ajnadžić on the anniversary of the founding of the First Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which he commanded, it was announced from the Public Relations Office.

"Dear Commander Ajnadžić,

I have the distinct honor to congratulate you, your comrades-in-arms, their families, and all Sarajevans on the birthday of the First Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This is, in fact, the birthday of all of us who survived the genocide and urbicide in Sarajevo. Life after the defense of Sarajevo is a new life for every true Sarajevan who is grateful to the fighters who fought and won so that we can all enjoy freedom, so that we can all bear witness to the truth about the heroic struggle of Bosnian sons for the honor and pride of us all.

The battle for Sarajevo was not just a clash between two equal armies, but a kind of battle of David and Goliath. Therefore, it is important, not only for Sarajevo, but for our entire country, and even wider, that it be known that in Sarajevo, as well as throughout our country, heroes still live who are ready to fight for the rights of all people to life, faith, freedom, property, honor...

Unfortunately, it seems that our people often forget their heroes. I am sad that many of these heroes are forgotten and left to suffer due to fear of false accusations; I am sad to hear how some war criminals are glorified and made into heroes, while true heroes for the freedom of our people and country are viewed with reservation, almost with fear. This attitude towards those to whom we must be grateful for the freedom we enjoy must be changed. We must not forget our heroes!

To forget them means to renounce both the history and the future of our people."
