Our Party: Komšić and Džaferović should dissolve the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliament

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Considering the political and security crisis in which Bosnia and Herzegovina has been for some time, and the need to take concrete, constitutionally enabled steps with the aim of effectively responding to that crisis, Our Party calls on the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina to dissolve the House of Peoples of the State Parliament without delay in order to create conditions for unblocking that body, it was announced today from Our Party.

"The BiH Constitution and the Rules of Procedure of the BiH Presidency are clear and explicit: the House of Peoples can be dissolved by the votes of two members of the Presidency and is not subject to the protection of vital interest. Instead of daily appeals and similar declarative steps, which only further underline the impotence of the current government, it is necessary to take substantive measures.

The dissolution of the House of Peoples would take away Milorad Dodik's controlling stake, which the SDA gave him almost three years ago, and which the SNSD has been using all this time to block key laws, as well as to adopt, together with the HDZ, laws and conclusions that directly undermine the Dayton Agreement.

This move would also allow for the appointment of an alternative to Asim Sarajlić in the Bosniak Caucus of this body, who at the last session of the House of Peoples supported the conclusion of Lidija Bradara from the HDZ for "urgent harmonization of electoral models (...) in order to ensure the legitimate representation of constituent peoples in the Presidency of BiH and the houses of peoples..." Considering Sarajlić's compromise in numerous affairs, he does not have the capacity to effectively resist attacks on the interests of Bosnia and Herzegovina, i.e., to not participate in them. At the same session, conclusions that undermine the legitimacy of the High Representative, call for the repeal of the law on the prohibition of genocide denial, and call for the expulsion of foreign judges from the Constitutional Court of BiH also received a general majority.

The dissolution of the House of Peoples is, therefore, the only way to finally correct the strategic mistake made by the SDA by gifting the fourth delegate to both Dodik and Čović, which enabled these two to hold the country, all its citizens, and the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina hostage for the past three years. There is still time for a new balance of power in that body to lead to substantive changes even before next year's elections," stated Our Party.
