Our Party and SDP BiH to elect presidents in May

SARAJEVO, (Patria) – The Fourth Electoral-Reporting Congress of Our Party will be held on May 18, where about 150 delegates will elect the president of Our Party, vice presidents, members of the Main Board, the Supervisory Board, and the Court of Honour. 

Proposals of candidates from local and regional boards will follow soon, and according to information available to the Patria agency, the current president of Our Party, Predrag Kojović, could publicly withdraw from the entire process. Kojović was elected president of Our Party on May 16, 2015.

Besides Kojović, there are two other names in consideration: Damir Marjanović, who joined Our Party in December 2017 and was the holder of the party's list for the Sarajevo Canton Assembly. He won 13,134 votes. Marjanović does not enjoy the support of the majority of Our Party members because he is more inclined to the idea of social democracy than liberalism, which Our Party advocates. 

It is also possible that Kojović himself will nominate a candidate who should lead Our Party in the next period, and that could be Edin Forto, the current Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton. 

Just eight days later, on May 26, elections for the president of the Social Democratic Party of BiH will be held based on the principle of one person, one vote. Besides the current president, Nermin Nikšić, the candidacies of several other experienced long-time members of SDP BiH are expected. What is certain is that the president of SDP BiH will be elected in a completely democratic way by the will of the membership, instead of by a few hundred delegates. 

Members of the Main Board of SDP BiH will be elected at the SDP BiH Congress on June 8.
