Landslide near Vranduk tunnel after earthquake, several injured

(Patria) - The Seismology Center of the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute issued a statement after the earthquake that shook Zenica, Sarajevo, Tuzla, and numerous other cities tonight.

"Instruments at the Seismology Center, Federal Hydrometeorological Institute in Sarajevo, registered a stronger earthquake at 9:43 PM, 60 kilometers northwest of Sarajevo, in the Zenica area. The magnitude of the earthquake at the hypocenter was 4.8 on the Richter scale, and the intensity at the epicenter was VI degrees on the Mercalli scale. The earthquake was felt in a wider area of central Bosnia and Herzegovina," stated the Institute.

Several buildings in Zenica were damaged, and there was a landslide on the M-17 road near the Vranduk tunnel. A traffic accident occurred in which one person was injured. The epicenter was in the village of Ljubetovo, where damage to houses was recorded.

Prime Minister of Zenica-Doboj Canton, Nezir Pivić, confirmed that according to information from the Cantonal Administration of Civil Protection, in the village of Ljubetovo, tiles have been reported to have fallen from several houses and one retaining wall has collapsed.

"There was a landslide on the M17 road in Jelina.

Unfortunately, four cases of citizen injuries have also been reported, one in Jelina, and three citizens reported injuries due to falling construction material from buildings and houses. Two injured individuals have been admitted to the Cantonal Hospital Zenica.

Our police and the services of the Cantonal Administration of Civil Protection are on standby and monitoring the situation on the ground," Pivić stated.

Professor Vedran Zubić also commented on tonight's earthquake, stating that if there are further tremors, they will not be of the same magnitude.
