After the military coup: Erdogan's popularity grows among Turks

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is experiencing an incredible surge in popularity, confirmed by poll results released on Thursday, according to which 68 percent of Turkish citizens are inclined towards his policy after the failed military coup, reports the Patria News Agency.

According to a Metropoll agency poll, around 68 percent of respondents answered that they are satisfied with his work, which is 21 percent more than in June. This is the second-best result for the Turkish leader since he held the prime ministerial post. 

Around 27 percent of respondents answered that they are dissatisfied with the way he leads the country, compared to 47 percent dissatisfied in June. 

The poll was conducted on 1275 respondents between July 28 and August 1, about two weeks after the coup. The research was carried out by one of the most established Turkish public opinion research firms. 

Following the failed coup attempt in the country on July 15, Turkish authorities have detained a total of 35,022 people linked to the military coup, a high-ranking Turkish official stated on Thursday. 

Slightly more than half, or 17,740, have been officially arrested, 11,597 people have been released, and 5,685 are being held in custody, the official said, writes Hina.
