After Years of Stagnation, the Sports Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina Appointed: Among Members are Politicians-Athletes

(Patria) - The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina has adopted the Decision on the Appointment of the Sports Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the highest advisory body of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is responsible for the development and quality of sports in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Council was appointed after the mandate of the previous convocation expired in 2019, and it consists of a total of 17 members who are selected from among prominent athletes and sports workers upon the proposal of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Olympic Committee of BiH, the Paralympic Committee of BiH, competent entity ministries, and the Department for Economic Development, Sports, and Culture of Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The following have been appointed to the Sports Council: Amel Mekić, Mirsad Kadrić, Enid Tahirović, Žana Novaković, Nada Tešanović, Adrijana Matijević, Anđa Kalem Perić, Kornelija Leko, Izet Rađo, Sabahudin Delalić, Vesna Lončar, Vedran Gligorić, Mario Đuran, Vinko Batinić, Davor Komšić, Adnan Džindo, and Vladimir Ivanek.

The Sports Council plays an important role in providing expert opinions on the Sports Development Strategy in BiH, the Sports Development Program, annual plans, and the financial needs of sports.

It is responsible for discussing important issues in sports, and for proposing and encouraging the adoption of measures that will improve sports. Furthermore, the Council proposes priority projects, prepares elaborates and studies for their financing within the public needs in sports system, and provides guidelines for the drafting of regulations on the categorization of athletes. In addition, the Sports Council provides opinions and recommendations for drafts and proposals of regulations related to sports.

The appointment of the Sports Council represents an important step towards strengthening the sports sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina, thereby creating foundations for the successful development and improvement of sports activities in the country.
