(Patria) - The upcoming weekend should be sunny with still high temperatures. Rain is possible in the afternoon hours. However, from next week we will briefly forget summer, and an umbrella will be needed at hand.
Meteorologist Nedim Sladić stated that cooling devices are being turned off, and we are returning autumn clothes to the closets. During the next week, we can gradually do the following:
"Take out umbrellas we haven't used for a long time because from September 9 to 15, a period of more frequent and heavier rain and thunderstorms begins, more intense in Herzegovina and western Bosnia. This is a consequence of the deepening of a trough in the western Mediterranean, which is moving further southeast, bringing an abundance of moist air to our areas in the southern upper-level flow.
The southerly flow keeps morning temperatures pleasant until Tuesday, September 10 — mostly from 16 to 21, in the south up to 24, and daytime temperatures from 22 to 27, in the far south and east still locally up to 32 °C on Monday. This long, hot summer has come to an end.
With the trough moving further southeast, from Wednesday, September 11, temperatures drop to values typical for the second decade of September, mostly from 18 to 26 °C. Conditions remain changeable with occasional moisture influxes, with which showers will not be completely absent.
Dominantly northern, and as the disturbance moves away, northeastern upper-level flow, caused by a new influx of colder air from the north of the continent with a characteristic U-shape, in the period from September 14 to 17, lowers the temperature significantly below the average for the second decade of September.
The U-shape situation is known to us from the past and is often associated with stronger, persistent rain and larger amounts of precipitation, which will be welcome in alleviating the current drought. On mountain peaks over 2000 meters above sea level, transient snowfall cannot be ruled out then either. Morning temperatures in this period are from 6 to 12, in the south up to 16, near zero on mountain peaks, and daytime from 14 to 20, in the south up to 25 °C.
A gradual recovery of air temperatures to usual September values is expected after September 17," Sladić stated.
