After Court Returned Indictment: Prosecution Team to Work on Ećim Case Going Forward

(Patria) - The Prosecutor's Office of BiH has decided to form a team of prosecutors from the Special Department for War Crimes, who will work on the case against Ljuban Ećim. The team will take all necessary activities to continue processing this case as soon as possible. This was done after the Court of BiH rejected the indictment of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH against the defendant accused of war crimes against Bosniaks in Kotor Varoš, Ljuban Ećim.

The Prosecutor's Office of BiH, in the case against Ljuban Ećim, who is charged with crimes against humanity in the area of Kotor Varoš and its surroundings, proposed along with the indictment the summoning of 261 witnesses, and the submission of around 1,450 pieces of material evidence, as well as the record of the suspect's examination.

The examination of the suspect, in the presence of his attorney, was organized on June 26, 2019, at the Higher Court in Belgrade, War Crimes Department, given that the suspect is at large and unavailable to the judicial authorities of BiH. Also, a record of the suspect's examination was made under number PomUk-Po2 44/2019 of the Higher Court in Belgrade, which was submitted to the Court of BiH.

The decision to confirm or reject the indictment is a procedural action of the Court of BiH, which the Prosecutor's Office cannot comment on. The acting prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH, Mersudin Pružan, will resubmit the indictment to the Court of BiH, given that the victims and injured parties in this case expect and deserve the implementation of justice.
