Daniel "Dragan" Okić, known as "Bosnian Hool", sustained life-threatening injuries and is currently being treated at a clinic in Graz, reports N1, as carried by the Patria news agency.
Okić, who lives in Weiz in Styria, was in a clinch with a 32-year-old opponent from the USA who executed a move known as a "spinning powerbomb"; he lifted him holding him by the shoulders, spun 360 degrees and then threw him to the floor, with Okić landing on his back.
After the match in which he was fighting ended, Okić lost consciousness on his way to the locker room. He received first aid and was then transferred to the hospital.
Doctors believe he suffered brain and lung injuries, and his condition is critical, Austrian media report.
Police are questioning witnesses and reviewing video footage of the fight to determine whether there was intent to deliberately injure the wrestler.
